Dundalk resident Karen Robinette Filar died June 18 at her home on McComas Avenue of breast cancer. She was 66.
{reg}The daughter of Kathryn Robinette and the late Carlton Robinette was born in Cumberland, Md. She graduated from Patapsco High School, attended Essex Community College [now CCBC Essex] and earned a certificate in transcription from Harford Community College. She lived in Joppa for 21 years.
As a young woman, she worked as a medical secretary at Johns Hopkins Hospital. After several years as a homemaker, she worked as a self-employed medical transcriptionist.
She studied the Bible and was a member of the Edgemere Church of God.
Along with her mother, Donald A. Filar, her husband of 34 years, son Robert A. Filar, siblings Kenneth Robinette and Karla Miller and one grandchild survive her. Her father and brother Carlton B. Robinette Jr. preceded her in death.
Services were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, with interment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.{/reg}
