The Maryland/Delaware/District of Columbia Press Foundation is now accepting applications for its Michael S. Powell High School Journalist of the Year award. The annual award honors an outstanding staff member of a Maryland, Delaware or District of Columbia high school newspaper (print or online) with a $ 1,500 cash scholarship.
Applicants must be seniors. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to study journalism in college. The winner will be selected by a panel of editors from MDDC member publications and will be notified by early March. The presentation of the award takes place at the MDDC Editorial Awards ceremony on Friday, May, 1, at the Westin BWI Hotel.
To apply, applicants must:
• Submit an autobiographical statement explaining publication activities
• Submit five published articles on either PDF or URL links
• Obtain a letter of recommendation from applicant’s publication advisor.
Application materials are available online at www.mddcpress.com/about/powell-home-page. Entries must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30.
