Alma Rita Kern

Alma Rita Kern died Dec. 31 of Alzeheimer’s disease surrounded by family at her home on Cedar Road, where she lived for 61 years. She was 85.
    {reg}Born in Baltimore to Frank and Mamie Schissler, she graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Commerical School in 1945 and later earned a general education diploma.
    She worked for several years at Beneficial Finance in Highlandtown and then for 20 years at the University of Baltimore Law School as an administrative assistant to the dean of admissions.
    She served as eucharistic minister and parish visitor at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church.
    William E. Kern Sr., her husband of 64 years, survives her, along with sons William E. Jr, Michael Thomas and Martin Timothy Kern, daughters Mary Kathleen Pistorio, Maria  Kristine Olszewski, Karen Marguerite Henderson, Kimberly Marie Albrecht and Kelly Maureen Urban, sister Barbara “Susie” Sapp, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
    Along with her parents, siblings Marie, Leona, Frank, Willie, Lesty, Bubs, Alma, Edna and Doris preceded her in death.
    A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with interment at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
    Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope-St. Luke School, 8003 North Boundary Road, Dundalk, MD 21222.{/reg}
