Longtime Parkwood Road resident Barabara M. DuSell Fischer died Feb. 5 at the age of 91.
{reg}Born in Ladysmith, Wis., she and her late husband, Chuck Fischer, moved to Baltimore after their marriage in 1946.
She served as a crossing guard, substitute teacher and teacher’s assistant, and finally as administrative secretary to the principal at Gray Manor Elementary School. After the school closed, she became administrative secretary to the principals at Bear Creek and Sandalwood elementary schools.
“She especially enjoyed her tenure at Gray Manor Elementary School,” a loved one recalled.
As a volunteer, she assisted her husband in his job as PTA president at Gray Manor Elementary, North Point Junior High, General John Stricker Middle and Patapsco High schools. She was also active in local Girl Scout and Cub Scout activities.
She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, traveling and playing games.
Survivors include chilren Bev Yurek, Ted Fischer and Rod Fischer, sister Beulah DuSell, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, daughter Pat Conroy, sisters Josephine Underwood and Elaine Waeltz and brother Gene DuSell preceded her in death.
Her grandchildren gave the eulogy during services at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Gray Manor. She was buried at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.{/reg}
