Stuart M. Wood Jr.

    Edgemere native Stuart M. Wood Jr. died Feb. 2 at his home in Given, W.Va., from a sudden illness. He was 61. Family and friends knew him as Woody.
    {reg}The U.S. Army veteran retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Given.
    He owned Woody’s Locksmith and became a well-known locksmith in Ripley, W.Va.
    Sons Paul S. and Joseph M. Wood, daughter Kelli A. Duskey, brother Don Wood, sisters Doris Morris, Loretta Neiswenter and Mary Klump and nine grandchildren survive him.
    Parents Evelyn L. and Stuart M. Wood Sr., wife Karen L. Wood and brother Charles H. Wood preceded him in death.
    American Legion Post 107 conducted interment with military honors at Jackson County Memorial Gardens following services at Waybright Funeral Home in Ripley.{/reg}

Alvin Joseph Snyder

    Longtime Dundalk resident and World War II veteran Alvin Joseph Snyder died March 8 at Stella Maris from an infection. He was 86.
    {reg}Born in Baltimore to the late Charles and Irma Snyder, he graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
    He and his wife, Laila “Leigh” Snyder, who survives him, moved to their home on Brookview Avenue 65 years ago.  
    He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 43 years.
    He belonged to St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, was a member of the American Legion and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America.
    Children Thomas, Joyce and Steven, brother Donald, sisters Carol, Nancy and Susan, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive him.
    Son John and brother Robert preceded him in death.
    Interment at Swartz Cemetery followed services at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk.

Daniel P. Knach Sr.

    Daniel P. Knach Sr. of Dundalk died March 7 at Gilchrist Hospice Care from complications due to cancer. He was 69 and lived in Eastfield for over 40 years.
    {reg}The native of Highlandtown graduated from Calvert Hall College in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.
    He worked at Mid-Atlantic Coca-Cola and then  as a housekeeper at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, where he was a longtime member.
    Lucille A. Knach, his wife of 49 years, son Daniel P. Knach Jr. and one grandson survive him.
    Interment at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery followed a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.

Louis Byrd Nichols Sr.

    Hillshire Road resident Louis Byrd Nichols Sr. died March 8 in Dundalk from multiple illnesses. He was 82.
    {reg}Born in Towson to the late Louis and Isabell Marie Nichols, he attended Dundalk High School, worked at Bethlehem Steel for 40 years and owned Dundalk Appliance Service for 30 years.
    He was a civilian pilot and flew for the Civil Air Patrol in a Cessna he kept at Essex Sky Park.
    He enjoyed motorcyles, and hypnotism, and belonged to the International Institute of Hypnosis. He was also a member of the Edgemere Church of God.
    Anna M. Nichols, his wife of 60 years, son Louis B. Nichols Jr., daughters Renee Smith and Kathy Chopper, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.
    Sister Elaine Cogan predeceased him.
    Servives were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, with interment at Parkwood Cemetery.{/reg}

Robert Oscar Mumper

Former Dundalk resident Robert Oscar Mumper died March 9 in Lima, Ohio, where he lived. Family and friends knew him as Bob. He was 71.
    {reg}The son of the late Fred and Alyce Nelsena Skiles Mumper grew up in Inverness and was a graduate of Dundalk High School and Johns Hopkins University.
    He worked in drafting, cost accounting, information systems and management at Westinghouse Electric and retired from Sundstrand Electric Company. In his retirement, he worked for Palmer-Donavin Manufacturing, Jesse Reese & Son, Calvin Construction and Tom Ahl Chrysler Dodge.
    Loved ones remembered him as a great encourager, a caring and careful mentor and the best listener, whose life was shaped by a deep faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. “Those who knew him will never forget his mischevious smile and dry humor.”
    He loved animals and had seven cats who were his constant companions.
    Survivors include children Beth Moore, Meg Sammet, Randi Pugsley, Jodi Owen, Brook Harris, Cameron Mumper and Greer Mumper, first wife Jacquelyn Mountan Hallahan, second wife Deb Mumper and 12 grandchildren.
    Brother Richard Mum-per, a stillborn son and a grandson preceded him in death.
    Services were held at Cable Road Alliance Church, where he was a member.

Longtime Liberty Parkway resident Herbert O. Biermann died Feb. 13 from ailments associated with leukemia. He was 84.
   {reg} Born in Shenandoah, Pa., he worked in the painting and wallpaper business and the pipe organ business before working for Bethlehem Steel for 35 years.
    His hobbies included listening to his police scanner, flying remote-controled airplanes and model railroading. “He and his sons made spectacular train gardens for the holiday seasons,” recalled a loved one.
    He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 61 years, sons Herbert, Mark and Karl, daughters Cheryl Kurek and Beverly Coffin, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
    Services at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home preceded interment at Meadow Ridge Memorial Park.

Barbara M. DuSell Fischer

Longtime Parkwood Road resident Barabara M. DuSell Fischer died Feb. 5 at the age of 91.
    {reg}Born in Ladysmith, Wis., she and her late husband, Chuck Fischer, moved to Baltimore after their marriage in 1946.
    She served as a crossing guard, substitute teacher and teacher’s assistant, and finally as administrative secretary to the principal at Gray Manor Elementary School. After the school closed, she became administrative secretary to the principals at Bear Creek and Sandalwood elementary schools. 
    “She especially enjoyed her tenure at Gray Manor Elementary School,” a loved one recalled.
    As a volunteer, she assisted her husband in his job as PTA president at Gray Manor Elementary, North Point Junior High, General John Stricker Middle and Patapsco High schools. She was also active in local Girl Scout and Cub Scout activities.
    She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, traveling and playing games.
    Survivors include chilren Bev Yurek, Ted Fischer and Rod Fischer, sister Beulah DuSell, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    In addition to her husband, daughter Pat Conroy, sisters Josephine Underwood and Elaine Waeltz and brother Gene DuSell preceded her in death.
    Her grandchildren gave the eulogy during services at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Gray Manor. She was buried at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.{/reg}

Robert “Bob” Hicks

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Robert “Bob” Hicks, Saturday, March 23, at 3 p.m. at Howard’s Pub, 7312 Holabird Ave.
    {reg}The Dundalk native and musician died March 5 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., from an infection that spread to his organs. He was 52.
    Born and raised in St. Helena, he graduated from Patterson High School in 1978.
    He was member of several bands from different musical traditions. “He will be remembered for his love of music, a unique and powerful voice which was longed for by many, and a dynamic sense of humor,” a loved one said. “Friends, family and the music community will miss him greatly.”
    Survivors include sisters Becky Moore and Barbie Hicks.
    Parents Floyd and Mary Hicks preceded him in death.{/reg}

John F. H. Hager

North Point peninsula native and military veteran John F. H. Hager died March 11 at his home in Port St. Lucie, Fla. He was 90.    
    {reg}Born and raised in Fort Howard, the son of George and Margaret Hager enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduating from Sparrows High School in 1943.
He served for three years in New Guinea during and after World War II.
    Upon returning home, he worked at Bethlehem Steel and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s 11th Engineer Battalion.
    He served in the Korean War in the 1st Battalion of the Marine 1st Division and fought at Inchon, Yudam-ni and the Chosen Reservoir. 
    He resumed his employment at Bethlehem Steel in 1953 and later joined the U.S. Army Reserve.
    He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the U.S. Marine League, the Masons and the Shriners.
    Daughter Robin, son Scott and his companion of 14 years, Mattie M. Kelly, survive him.
    Along with his parents, wife Hope Hager, siblings Edward Hager, Kathryn Mack and Miltdred M. Hager preceded him in death.
    Interment at Arlington National Cemetery is pending.{/reg}

    {reg}The longtime Dundalk resident died March 17 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He was 84 and had lived on Delvale Avenue for 60 years.
    Born in Baltimore, he graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School. He worked at Allied-Signal for 35 years.
    A veteran of the U.S. Army, he belonged to Disabled Veterans of American and to American Legion Post 38.
    He ushered at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where he was a parishionor for 50 years.
    He loved being with his family and celebrating holidays and birthdays.
    Helen Domina, his wife of 63 years, children Donna Saffouri, Sharon Vondracek and Vincent S. Domina, sister Rose Baur and four grandchildren survive him.

Eastfield resident Barbara M. Baker died March 7 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center after a long illness. She was 87.
    {reg}Born in Baltimore to the late William and Mary Bruggeman, she lived in West Inverness for over 50 years. 
    The homemaker and mother of five loved spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed bowling, needlepoint, crossword puzzles and going to Atlantic City.
    Children Richard J. Baker, Barbara L. Leaf, Catherine Martin and Teresa Farrier, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren survive her.
    She was preceded in death by husband Alfred J. Baker Jr., son Alfred J. Baker III, brothers Otto, William, George, Charles, Robert, Henry and Richard and sisters Margaret and Mary.

Lifelong Dundalk resident Linda Joyce Anders-Cumberland died March 13 at Franklin Square Hospital from lung cancer. She was 62 and had lived on Loganview Drive for 60 years.
    {reg}The daughter of the late William S. and Thelma L. Boggs was born in Baltimore and graduated from Dundalk High School in 1968.
    She worked for Holbleman International in the 1980s, Middle River Aerospace in the 1990s and Millennium-Organic Chemicals in the 2000s.
    She was a longtime member of Watersedge Baptist Church and belonged to the Watersedge Baptist Senior Center.
    Husband Robert W. Cumberland Sr., sons William G. Anders, Albert L. Anders and Robert W. Cumberland Jr. and six grandchildren survive her.
    Services were held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk.{/reg}

    Lifelong  Sparrows Point resident Herbert H. Lee died March 12 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center from sepsis. He was 69 and lived in the house on Lodge Forest Drive where he was born.
    {reg}After graduating from Sparrows Point High School in 1961, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He advanced to the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged. He then attended Dundalk Community College [now CCBC Dundalk] for two years.
    He retired from Lever Brothers after 31 years and was a member Patapsco Masonic Lodge 183.
    He enjoyed working on his 1969 Pontiac GTO and traveling.
    Myrna Lee, his wife of 47 years, survives him, along with daughters Nicole Lee-Miskimon, Tracy Lee Walpole and Tammy Coren Pittman, brothers James Lee and Ernie Saxberg, sister Dolores Parker and seven grandchildren.
    Father John F. Lee, mother Dorothy E. Saxberg and brother Jackie Lee preceded him in death.
    Interment at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens followed services at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home.

    {reg}The longtime Edgemere resident died March 14 from injuries incurred in a hit and run incident. He was 77.
    Born in Renovo, Pa, to Alexander and Loretta O’Connor Mack,  both of whom predeceased him, he lived in Highlandtown, attended St. Bernadine Catholic School and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.
    He served in the U.S. Army for two years and worked at Bethlehem Steel Shipyard for over 30 years.
    The Orioles and Ravens fan was a member of the VFW.
    Son Steven S. Mack, daughter Tracey L. Green, brother Thomas Mack, sisters Marie Mack and Kathleen Mack Hayes, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.

    {reg}The Dundalk resident died March 24 at his home of esophageal cancer. He was 46.
    Born in Baltimore to Hazel and Albert Beyer Sr., who survive him, he graduated from Towson Catholic High School in 1985 and was a former employee at the Fusion Care Center at Walgreens.
    He attended St. Rita Roman Catholic Church.
    Barbara Beyers, his wife of 11 years, daughter Elizabeth Beyer and brother Albert Beyer Jr. also survive him.
    Sister Robin Haeberle preceded him in death.

Eastwood resident and Vietnam War veteran Leo Cascio died March 12 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He was 66.
    {reg}Born and raised in Baltimore, the son of the late Leo and Rose Lilly Cascio graduated from Parkville High School.
    He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War for two years. After leaving active duty, he served in the Army National Guard for 18 years.
    He retired from Johns Hopkins Hospital after working as a protective service officer for 20 years. 
    He loved to fish at Loch Raven Reservoir.
    Deborah Brosh Cascio, his wife of 25 years, survives him, along with sons  Tony Cascio Jr. and Richard A. Cascio, daughter Holly A. Cascio Jelinski, brother Bob Cascio, sisters Anna Hemstetter and Ida Faloni, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
    Services at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk preceded interment with military honors at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.

Philip Badinger Sr.

Former Manor Road resident Philip “Phil” Badinger Sr. died March 17 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. He was 65 and lived in Edgewood.
    {reg}Born in Balitimore to Mildred Douglas and the late James G. Badinger Sr., he graduated from Dundalk High School in 1966.
    A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Special Forces during the Vietnam War.
    He loved crabbing, fishing and spending time with his family. “He loved his family and was always outgoing and joking. He was very handy and could fix anything,” recalled a family member.
    Along with his mother, survivors include wife Margaret Mary “Maggie” Maher Badinger, sons Philip “PJ” James Badinger Jr. and Brian Alexander Badinger, daughter Shawn Heather Badinger,
stepchildren Eileen Badinger and Francis “Gary” Norris, brothers Gerald “Jerry” Badinger, David Badinger and James Badinger, sister Mariea “Ree” Thompson, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.{/reg}

    {reg}Born in Baltimore, he graduated from Sparrows Point High School in 2001.
    He loved fishing and spending time with his family.
    Survivors include wife Brandy, son Colin, mother Christina Muscolino, father Joseph Muscolino, stepmother Kim Muscolino and brother Sean Muscolino.

    Lifelong Dundalk resident Nancy Komorowski died March 8 at Johns  Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She was 76.
    {reg}Born in Baltimore to the late Helen and William Reist, she graduated from Dundalk High School in 1953.
    She was a homemaker and mother of five. Loved ones remember her love of  holidays, her smile and laughter.
    She enjoyed going to the beach, fishing, bowling, gardening, art and writing poetry. She was also an avid stock car racing fan.
    Daughter Kathy Booth, sons Kenneth, Richard, Jimmy and Kevin Pressley, brother Bob Reist, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive her.
    Brother Harry Reist preceded her in death.

Raymond C. Efford

A memorial service for Raymond C. Efford will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 2:30 p.m. at Chandler Place, 754 Dilworth Lane, Rock Hill, S.C.
    {reg}The longtime former Dundalk resident and Navy veteran of World War II died March 18 in Rock Hill, where he lived. He was 90.
    He served aboard destroyer USS Kimberly in several Pacific theater campaigns.
    On the day he met his future wife, Emily Virginia Pueschel, in Baltimore when he was 19, he reportedly told his friends, “I’m going to marry that girl.” The couple were married 70 years.
    He worked for Glenn L. Martin Company for over 30 years. He also retired from the B&O Railroad.
    He loved animals, Labor Day cookouts, taking his family to the beach and mowing his lawn.
    “He lived by the simple rule of hard work and love of family and country,” a family member said in eulogy. “He was a true patriot, loving husband, giving father and patient granddad. He will be remembered for all that he gave — a  true inspiration.”
    Survivors include his wife Emily, sons David, Steven, Wayne and Glen, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
