A service for Alma D. Thomas will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, 7401 German Hill Road.
The former longtime Kirkleigh Road resident died Dec. 7 in Bel Air of cancer. She was 93 and lived in Aberdeen.
{reg}Born and raised in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Evelyn and Charles Ryan, she graduated from high school there. She lived in Dundalk for 70 years.
She worked as a secretary at Johns Hopkins Hospital, attended Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church and belonged to the VFW and Ateaze Senior Center.
She loved bowling, tap dancing, traveling on cruises, eating out at restaurants and spending time with her family.

Services for Minnie M. Evans will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at North Point Baptist Church, 4201 North Point Blvd., where she was a charter member.
The longtime Dundalk resident died of natural causes on Dec. 10 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She was 93 and had lived in the community for 75 years.
{reg}Born in Stuarts Draft, Va., she worked at Howard Carr Used Cars, Rheem Manufacturing Company and S&N Katz Jewelry store.
“She loved to take care of her flowers,” a family member recalled. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing and traveling.
Children Dolores M. Durst and James R. Evans, sister Cornelia Hewitt, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren survive her.

Dundalk resident William J. Spurlock died Oct. 15 of natural causes. He was 86.
{reg}Born in Rose Hill, Va., he served in the U.S. Army in the military police during World War II. He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 42 years of service.
He was a member of the Patapsco Masonic Lodge and enjoyed traveling and old cars.
Wife Mabel Spurlock, children Nick Spurlock and Mary Ann Hatfield, five stepchildren, one brother, two sisters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive him.
His first marriage to Dementra Spurlock ended with her death. Seven brothers also predeceased him.
Services were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, with interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery.{/reg}

Longtime Ormand Road resident and community activist Janet B. Wood died Nov. 29. She was 74.
{reg}For over 20 years she played a leading role in resolving issues affecting the greater Dundalk area. As a member and president of Wells-McComas Community Association and delegate to the Greater Dundalk Community Council, she was prominently involved in local issues including the Norris landfill and the Hart-Miller Island dredging containment project.
She worked as administrative assistant for state Sen. Norman R. Stone for 21 years, serving as liaison to area community organizations, and played a major role in his election campaigns. She was also an active member in the Democratic State Central Committee and influenced the filling of vacancies in the 6th District legislative delegation.
After graduating from high school, she worked as a bookkeeper at Velleggia’s Restaurant in Little Italy. In her early career as a teacher, she taught at St. Anthony of Padua and at Our Lady of Hope/St. Luke’s School. She also taught pre-Cana classes at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Edgemere.
Survivors include daughters Mary Anna Michalski and Kerri Kristina Zurek, brother John E. Wholey Jr, sister Betty Oursler and five grandchildren.
“We have lost a remarkable mother and friend. We will keep her wonderful memories alive in our hearts forever,” a loved one said.
Husband Robert M. Wood and sister Mary C. Meyers preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Luke Catholic Church, with interment at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.{/reg}

Former Ewald Avenue resident Elzie C. Martin Jr. died Nov. 17 of natural causes. He was 82 and lived in Martinsburg, W.Va. Family and friends knew him as “Sonny.” He had lived in West Inverness for 30 years.
{reg}Survivors include children Roy, Jerry and Bill Martin, Lolly Neale and Candy Smith, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Longtime Dundalk resident Carroll L. McCluskey died Dec. 6 after a short illness at his home in Eastwood, where he lived for 59 years. He was 82.
{reg}Born in Baltimore, he earned a general education diploma through Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and served in the U.S. Marines for four years, attaining the rank of sergeant.
He retired from the Baltimore City Police Department after 28 years of service.
He traveled extensively as a member of the International Police Association. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the American Legion and the VFW in Essex.
Survivors include son David L. McCluskey, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Francis McCluskey, his wife of 49 years, and Theresa Maskell, companion of 10 years, predeceased him.
Interment at Dulaney Valley Gardens followed services at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk.{/reg}

Edgemere native Elizabeth J. Foulke died Dec. 5 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center of a blood infection and kidney failure. She was 83.
{reg}Born in Coatesville, Pa., she graduated from Sparrows Point High School and was a longtime member of Lodge Forest Methodist Church.
She worked at Hochschild-Kohn and Petro Oil. She enjoyed spending time with family and participating in events at the Edgemere Senior Center.
Gene Foulke, her husband of 62 years, daughter Peggy Mazurek, brother Robert Street and one grandchild survives her.
Parents George Street Sr. and Anna Hollar, son David A. Foulke and brother George Street Jr. predeceased her.

Lifelong Dundalk resident James Clubb died Dec. 10 at FutureCare North Point from respiratory failure. He was 59.
{reg}He loved baseball, dancing and singing.
“When he was born, the doctor said he wouldn’t live past 10,” a family member recalled.
Survivors include brother Michael and sisters Sonia, Teresa, Lorinda and Margaret.
Mother Agnes L. Cole and stepfather William R. Cole predeceased him.
His body was donated to science.

St. Claire Lane resident Alice J. Lee died Dec. 8, with family and friends at her side. She was 83.
{reg}A former employee of the Baltimore County School system, she loved the holidays and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing with her late husband, Jack Lee.
She leaves behind children John, Julie, Mary and Carol and many grand- and great-grandchildren. “She was loved and will be missed,” a family member said.
Parents Frances and Junior Swiger, daughter Frances Parks and brother Edward Swiger also preceded her in death.

Longtime Edgemere resident and avid gardener Percy L. Palmer died Dec. 3 in the home he built on River Drive Road, where he had lived for 56 years. He was 88.
{reg} “He loved his vegetable garden,” a family member recalled. He also enjoyed building things.
The son of the late Dessie Jewell was born in Warrenton, Ga., and graduated from Warrenton High School. He was the last of six siblings.
After two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, he served for 28 years in the reserves. He retired from Patapsco & Back Rivers Railroad.
An active member of the Dirty Dozen Hunting Club, he was renowned for his special sauce used for chicken barbecues. He was also a member of the Boumi Temple in Dundalk, the Acacia Club and Patapsco Masonic Lodge 183, where he was a former master. He attended Lodge Forest United Methodist Church.
Sons Alvin and Jimmy, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive him.
Roseline Palmer, his wife of 55 years, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Interment was at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.

Former Dundalk resident Elizabeth A. Swayne died on Dec. 13 at her home in Essex of liver disease. She was 73 and lived on Jeannette Avenue for 33 years.
{reg}She attended St. Mary’s Business School in Highlandtown as a girl and earned a general education diploma in her 40s.
The lifelong homemaker loved yard sales and loved spending time with her six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Charlesmont resident Anthony Lapinski died Nov. 30 at his home of mesothelioma. He was 74.
{reg}He loved visiting Ocean City and fishing.
Born in Baltimore to the late Anthony and Marie Lapinski, he was a member of Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church.
He worked at Western Electric for 30 years and at the University of Maryland for 15 years.

Edgemere resident Irene Mavronis died Dec. 6 at her home on Jarsey Avenue. She was 70.
{reg}The daughter of the late Angelo and Veronica Loizos grew up in Baltimore. She moved to West Inverness when she married George Mavronis, who survives her.
“She and George stressed the importance of education, good citizenship and family values to their children,” a loved one recalled. The couple coached soccer together.
She loved to cook and was well known for her Greek cuisine. She also enjoyed ceramics, taking ocean cruises and playing slots.
She was a longtime member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, where services were held.
Sons Stephen and Angelo Mavronis, daughters Despina Papavasilakis and Nicole Kazakos, sister Rosella Clark and eight children, who knew her as “Yia Yia,” also survive her.
Interment was at St. Demetrios Cemetery.
