Richard G. Erdek

    Former Dundalk resident Richard G. Erdek died Nov. 18 in New Freedom, Pa. The New Jersey native was 33.
    {reg}Born in Perth Amboy to John O. Erdek Jr. and Mary Jo McGrath-Erdek, who survive him, he graduated from New Jersey’s Sayreville War Memorial High School in 1997. He was a member of Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church in Sayreville.
    He was self-employed at R&R Construction Company in Dundalk.
    He enjoyed body-building and working out at the gym with his son, Richard G. Erdek Jr., and vacationing in many countries with his longtime companion, Rachel Borris; both of them survive him.
    Siblings Curt P., Marijo E. and Elizabeth R. Erdek also survive him.
    Brother John R. Erdek preceded him in death.
    Services were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, with interment at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens.{/reg}

    Lifelong Dundalk resident James T. Manson died Nov. 13 at Gilchrist Hospice Care. He was 60 and lived on Bayside Drive.
    {reg}The son of Martha E. Manson and the late John E. Manson, he was born in Baltimore, graduated from Patapsco High School and served in the U.S. Navy for two years.
    He worked in the construction industry and was an avid fisherman.
    Along with his mother, he is survived by daughter Nicole M. Manson-Kaczynski and brother Donald W. Manson.

    Longtime Ewald Avenue resident Regina C. Neale died on Nov. 15. She was 87 and had lived in Dundalk for 57 years.
    {reg}The New Jersey native was the daughter of the late Marie and William Eccleston.
    She attended Inverness Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Young at Heart Senior Club. She enjoyed playing bingo and bowling.
    Millard Neale Jr., her husband of 62 years, survives her, along with sons William Neale and Millard Neale III, daughter Marie Wehner, brother William Eccleston, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

    Viewing for Terry M. Kowalevicz will be held Friday, Nov. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m and 6 to 8 p.m. at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave., followed by a service on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m. Burial will be at Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.
    The lifelong Dundalk resident died Nov. 26 of a heart attack. He was 61 and lived on Merritt Boulevard.
    {reg}The son of the late Henry and Evelyn Kowalevicz was born in Baltimore. He worked at American National Can Company for 19 years, and then with  Baltimore County Public Schools as a groundsman, where he retired in 2006.
    “He loved racing cars and watching stock car races,” a loved one said.
    Shirley, his wife of 38 years, survives him, along with sons James Kowalevicz and Terry Kowalevicz Jr., brother Andy, sisters Beverly, Florence, Bonnie and Dolores and three grandchildren.
    Brother Henry Kowalevicz predeceased him.{/reg}

Leonard J. Zappardino Sr.

Former Colgate resident and World War II U.S. Navy veteran Leonard J. Zappardino Sr. died Nov. 26 from Parkinson’s disease at Future Care Nursing Home. He was 85.
    {reg}The son of the late Anthony and Pauline Zappardino was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He left Kenwood High School to join the U.S. Navy, graduating from Baltimore Polytechnic High School in 1948.
    After working as a machinist at Bethlehem Steel for 20 years, he owned three gas stations in East Baltimore. “He was a renowned auto mechanic for 45 years,” recalled a loved one. 
    He enjoyed going to nightclubs, dancing, swimming, watching stock car races and Sunday dinners with family.
    Sons Paul J. and Craig A. Zappardino, sister Josephine Argentino and seven grandchildren survive him.
    Son Leonard J. Zappardino and brothers Carmine and Antony Zappardino preceded him in death.
    Services were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home.

William F. Meyers Sr.

    Former New Battle Grove Road resident William F. Meyers Sr. died Nov. 18 at Gilchrist Hospice Care after a long illness. He was 88 and lived in Middle River.
    {reg}A businessman, he  owned and operated the New North Point Company for several years.
    The son of the late Oscar and Anna Marie Meyers was born on Robinson Street in Highlandtown. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and belonged to the American Legion in Middle River.
    “He loved boating and fishing, and anything to do with the water,” a family member recalled. He also liked to hunt.
    Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Anna M. Meyers, children William Meyers Jr. and Debrah Gentry and two grandchildren.
    Sons Charles H. and Ryan L. Meyers preceded him in death.
    Burial was at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.{/reg}

Phillip K. McCardell Sr.

Lifelong North Point peninsula resident Phillip K. McCardell Sr. died Nov. 25 at Gilchrist Hospice Care from liver cancer. He was 77 and had lived in Jones Creek since 1972.
    {reg}Born in Sparrows Point to the late Emma and Paul McCardell, he graduated from Sparrows Point High School and retired from Bethlehem Steel after 48 years of service.
    A National Rifle Association member, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and watching football. He liked to build things.
    He also belonged to VFW, Moose and Elks organizations.
    He died four days before the 58th anniversary of his marriage to Philomina, who survives him. Sons Mike, Michael, Phillip Jr. and Karl, daughters Barbara, Diane, Deanne, Cheryl and Lisa, brothers Emmett and Stewart, sisters Ina and Delores, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive him.
    Daughters Phyllis and Pamela and brothers Paul, Donald and William predeceased him.
    Sevices were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, with burial at Parkwood Cemetery.

Searles Road resident Rose Marie Mathis died Nov. 27 at the age of 59. She was known as Rosie to family and friends.
    {reg}“She was loved by all and will be greatly missed,” a family member said.
    Son J. Matt Longo, siblings Kenneth Leitch, Louis Leitch and Daniel Mathis Jr., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her.
    Parents Dorthea and Daniel J. Mathis Sr. and sister Linda L. Rothe preceded her in death.

John W. Jones Jr.

Visitation for John W. Jones Jr. will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 6 p.m. at McComas Funeral Home, 1317 Cokesbury Road, Abingdon, preceding services Friday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Bel Air United Methodist Church, 21 Linwood Ave.
    {reg}The former Dundalk resident and veteran teacher Dec. 3 at his home. He was 63.
    Born and raised in Dundalk and Jones Creek, the son of the late Emma A. and John W. Jones Sr. spent his younger years working at Bethlehem Steel in bridge construction and traveling the world with the U.S Merchant Marine.
    He was a teacher and coach in the Harford County Public School system for 31 years until his retirement in 2008. He served for three years as president of the county teachers’ union.
    An avid beekeeper, fisherman and outdoorsman, he was politically active in his community and attended meetings of the Deer Creek Watershed Association. He and his wife Patricia, who survives him, took many cross-country motorcycle trips together.
    “John had the gift of making friends feel like family, family feel like friends, and his home a place of love where everyone was welcome,” a loved one said.
    Son Derek H. Jones, daughter Rachel A. Slusher and sister Elizabeth A. Jones also survive him.

Heather Brownrigg Kendall

Former Dundalk resident and veterinarian Heather Brownrigg Kendall died unexpectedly on Oct. 21 in Doha, Qatar, where she had recently joined a veterinary practice. She was 42.
    {reg}Born and raised in Dundalk, the daughter of Peter Brownrigg and Julienne Brownrigg, she graduated from Sparrows Point High School.
    After graduating from University of Maryland Baltimore County, she attended veterinary school at the University of Liverpool, where she met her husband, Matthew Kendall, who survives her. She graduated in 2001 and first worked as a veterinarian in the United Kingdom.
    She enjoyed traveling throughout the U.K. and tending to her exotic pets.
    In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by brother Peter John Brownrigg.

Longtime Dundalk resident Jeff Blair died Nov. 28 after a long illness. He was 56.
   {reg} “Jeff had a love for music, which included writing songs and playing guitar. He was always the life of any party. He also had a great love for animals,” recalled a loved one.
    The son of Mickey Blair and the late Shirley Blair, he grew up in West Inverness and graduated from Patapsco High School in 1974.
    He worked as a yard supervisor at Grasmick Lumber Company for 15 years and later was manager at Restoration Hardware.
    Survivors include wife Tina Blair and sister Sharon Puller. 
    A memorial service was held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk.

Anna G. Sheckells

Gray Manor native Anna G. Sheckells died Nov. 25 in Freeland, Pa., at the age of 65. Family and friends knew her as  Gladys.
    {reg}Born and raised in Dundalk, the daughter of the late Walter A. and Ann Simonsen, she attended the First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor. She later joined St. Paul’s Independent Church in Millers, Md., where she was the organist for many years.     
    She worked as a bus attendant for special needs children in Baltimore County Public schools and later at the former Valley Video Store in Glen Rock, Pa.  
    Survivors include husband Thomas E. Sheckells, sons Daniel, Scott and Jason Sheckells, daughters Jennifer Dolliver and Becky Watkins, sister Gloria Schneider and nine grandchildren.
    Brothers Walter and Wayne Simonsen preceded her in death.

Eastwood resident Kyle L. Tuck died Oct. 7 at his home from advanced dementia. He was 91 and had lived in Dundalk since 1956.
    {reg}Born in Virginia, the oldest of 12 children, he graduated from high school and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.
    A U.S. Post Office retiree, he attended Colgate Baptist Church for 50 years.
    “He lived for bowling and belonged to several leagues,” a family member recalled. He also enjoyed walking with friends at Eastpoint Mall.
    Son Kenneth W. Tuck, daughter Janet Hammond Lewis, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive him.
    Wife Hetti Tuck and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
    Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery followed services at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk.

Longtime Dundalk resident Dick L. Bennett died Nov. 19 of heart failure. He was 87 and lived in the community since 1963.
    {reg}Born in Marshalls Creek, Pa., he was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Navy, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
    He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
    Survivors include children Robert T., George R. and Deborah Bennett, sisters Elaine and Julia, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
    Wife Mattie and son Dick L. Bennett Jr. predeceased him.
    Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.{/reg}

    Dundalk resident Victoria L. DeAngelo died Nov. 25 in Curtis Bay from injuries incurred in an automobile accident. She was 21.
    {reg}Born in Darlington to Anthony DeAngelo and Darlene DeAngelo, both of whom survive her, she graduated from Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts.
She was planning on attending Medix School to become a medical assis-tant. She worked as a waitress at various restaurants.
    She loved running, dancing, exercising, listening to music and spending time with her family.
    Brother Anthony DeAngelo Jr. and stepsister Christina Vest also survive her.
    Services were held at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home in Dundalk, with interment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

    A memorial service for David Bogie will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at Beacon Baptist Church, 5700 Ranelagh Road, in White Marsh.
    The lifelong Dundalk resident died Dec. 6 at Johns Hopkins Hospital of cancer. He was 33.
    {reg}He loved listening to music and spending time with his family. “He will truly be missed,”  a loved one said.
    Survivors include father David Bogie, stepparents Peter Laufert and Letitia Bogie, daughters Alexis and Jasmine Bogie, siblings Jason and Sarah Bogie and stepbrothers Jay, Eric, Michael and Bruce Gilliland.

Agnes E. Passapae

    A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Agnes E. Passapae on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. at Oakcrest Village Chapel, located at 8800 Walther Blvd. in Parkville.
    The former Dundalk resident died of natural causes on Nov. 14 at Oakcrest Village. She was 90 and had lived on Wise Avenue for 50 years.
    {reg}One of 15 siblings, she was born in Eckhart Mines, Md., and attended St. Michael School in Frostburg.
    She married Vernon Passapae in 1942. The couple moved to Dundalk in 1950, where they raised two children. She worked in retail at Hutzler’s Department Store in Eastpoint Mall from 1963 until it closed. Following the death of her husband in  2006, she lived at Cove Point Apartments until 2011.
    She enjoyed music, reading, working in her rose garden, taking walks, spending time with her granddaughters and caring for the family’s pet dogs. “She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother,” recalled a loved one.
    Children Janet Passapae-Sauer and Thomas G. Passapae, sister Pat, brothers Tom, Richard, Bernie and Leonard, two granddaughters and two stepgrandchildren survive her.
    Along with her husband, she was predeceased by nine siblings.

    The lifelong Edgemere resident died Dec. 2 at York Hospital in York, Pa. of cancer. He was 61. Family and friends knew him as Jerry.
    {reg}The son of the late Gale and Leonard Lengrand was born and raised in Edgemere and graduated from Sparrows Point High School. He served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
    He worked at Bethlehem Steel and later was a longtime employee of Vulcan-Hart.
    A stock car racing fan, Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver.
    Janine Lengrand, his wife of 24 years, survives him, along with children Jerry, Robert, Tammie, Jaclin and Melissa and 12 grandchildren.
    Brothers Roney and Sammy preceded him in death.{/reg}

    The lifelong Dundalk resident died Dec. 9 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center of lung cancer. She was 77.
    {reg}Born at home in Baltimore, she graduated from Dundalk High School in 1953.
    She was a longtime and active member of the VFW Post 6694 Ladies Auxiliary.
    Daughter Linda Scannell, brothers Raymond and Lawrence Ferro, one grandson and four great-grandchildren survive her.
    Leo Davan, her husband of 19 years, and parents Mario and Josephine Ferro preceded her in death.
    She will lie with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.

    Longtime Fort Howard resident Wallace J. Kirklewski died Dec. 5 at the Washington Hospital Center of natural causes. He was 71 and lived on Howard Avenue.
    {reg}Born in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Margaret and Bernard Kirklewski, he graduated from Sparrows Point High School, served in the U.S. Army and worked as a millwright at Bethlehem Steel.
    He was a member of the North Point Yacht Club.
    Ann E. Kirklewski, his wife of 30 years, survives him, along with children Kathleen Gernhart, James Engel, Richard Engel, Michael Engel, Patricia Bunch and Stephen Engel, brother Bernard Kirklewski and five grandchildren.
    Services were held at Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk.
